Day 1: We board our plane for the flight to Calgary. We take the drive to our hotel in Banff, where we have accommodations for the next 4 evenings. We are treated to a delicious welcome dinner reception in one of the city's finer restaurants. (Dinner)
Day 2: Our tour today includes seeing such fascinating places as Bow Falls - where we view the hoodoos overlooking Bow Valley, Surprise Corner, Tunnel Mountain Drive and Sulphur Mountain. The afternoon is free to enjoy the charming city of Banff at our leisure. Banff offers excellent restaurants, galleries and wonderful shopping, all while being surrounded by the majestic mountains of Canada's Rockies. (Breakfast)
Day 3: Our day is highlighted with a visit to Lake Louise where we visit the magnificent Chateau Lake Louise. A stroll through the flower-laden grounds in front of the Chateau takes us to the well known lake. The blue-green waters and dramatic setting of the lake affords us with views of one of the most beautiful and photographed places in the world. In the afternoon our sightseeing of the area continues as we pass the Great Divide and visit Yoho National Park, which features vertical rockwalls, waterfalls and craggy peaks that draws visitors from around the world. We'll also see Takakkaw Falls, the Spiral Tunnels, Emerald Lake and Natural Bridge. We'll drive through Kicking Horse Pass, where in 1855, the Canadian railway was completed to connect the east and west coasts of Canada. We return to Banff for the evening. (B)
Day 4: What a day! We drive on the Icefields Parkway and see more of the most spectacular scenery in the world. We are surrounded by the massive mountains and sheer cliffs on the Canadian Rockies. Not only will you see these magnificent snow domed peaks but you may just see some bighorn sheep, bears or wandering elk on the drive. We'll see Peyto Lake, a glacier fed lake located in Banff National Park. The significant amounts of glacial rock flour that flows into the lake, gives it a remarkable, bright turquoise color. Always a highlight of the tour is a thrilling snowcoach ride on a specially designed Ice Explorer on the Columbia Icefield's Athabasca Glacier. The thrilling ride takes us on one of the world's largest masses of ice. Mid-point in the tour you will have the option of stepping out onto the glacier. We return to Banff and are treated to a wonderful dinner. (B,D)
Day 5: We leave Banff and enjoy a most scenic and relaxing cruise, with gorgeous views of the Canadian Rockies, on Lake Minnewanka, known by Native Canadians as "Lake of the Water Spirits." We then drive east to Calgary. Set dramatically between prairies and peaks, Calgary is a chic urban landscape surrounded by incomparable natural grandeur. After taking a tour of Calgary, which blends modern sophistication with a romantic perception of the past, we check into our hotel. Tonight we are treated to a delicious Farewell Dinner. (B,D)
