NEW YORK CITY
Day 1: We arrive in New York and transfer to our hotel, located in the heart of Manhattan. After freshening up a bit, we get together for a welcome dinner in one of New York’s fine restaurants. We then take a mini-tour of New York at night, seeing the city’s buildings aglow with their bright lights and getting a sense of the boundless energy for which New York is known. (D)
Day 2: We take a tour of New York in which we get an insider’s view of the city. Our tour focuses on the uptown area of Manhattan as we see, among other things, Broadway, Times Square, the Empire State Building, the fabulous shops along Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Particularly interesting is the eclectic architecture of some of New York’s more historic buildings, from the Flatiron Building to Grand Central Station, to the bastion of townhouses, mansions and apartment buildings on the Upper West Side. An unforgettable highlight of the day is a Backstage Tour of the famed Radio City Music Hall. You’ll step back in time to see the original 1932 Art Deco furnishings in the lounges, foyers and “retiring” areas, visit the backstage dressing rooms, see how the remarkable giant stage operates and even get to meet a Rockette! Dinner in one of New York’s better “local restaurants” highlights a truly enjoyable day. (B,D)
Day 3: We begin today’s activities with a drive down to Lower Manhattan to visit Greenwich Village, the Financial District and Wall Street, the Lower East Side, TriBeCa, SoHo, Chinatown and Little Italy. We’ll also make a special stop at the 9/11 Memorial. At the Battery we board the ferry and take the short cruise to Ellis Island, where most of America’s early immigrants first set foot on United States soil. We pass quite close to the Statue of Liberty, the remarkable symbol of our freedom and liberty. The return cruise affords us one of the most incredible views imaginable of New York’s world famous skyline. The late afternoon and evening are free to allow you to enjoy the city at your leisure. Perhaps you’ll take in a Broadway or off-Broadway show. In any event, our escort will offer you some guidance on places to go that will meet with your particular interests. (B)
Day 4: Transfer to the airport for your flight home (depending on the time of your flight, we may be able to arrange some additional sightseeing - such as a tour of Grand Central Station, a drive through Harlem or a visit to "Strawberry Fields" in Central Park - dedicated to the memory of John Lennon who lived across the street from the park). (B)
We can assist in the purchase of tickets to a Broadway show for the group if you so desire.
