FALL FOLIAGE TOUR
to the Historic Hudson Valley

2022 Dates: Oct 3-7 ... Oct 10-14 ... Oct 17-21 ... Oct 24-28

1st Day: Upon arriving in New York, we are met by our escort and begin our drive to upstate New York. The drive takes us through some lovely, scenic countryside as we make our way to our hotel, which is located in the heart of the historic Hudson Valley. After checking in and being given some time to freshen up, we are treated to a delicious welcome dinner. (D)

2nd Day: We drive north for a visit to Saratoga Springs. This historic town was the site of the Battle of Saratoga, considered to be the turning point for the Colonies in the American Revolutionary War. Its beauty and the healing power of its mineral springs made it the most popular destination for America's "Rich & Famous" in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Situated in a lovely setting, you will see its charming Victorian mansions, Congress Park, the Canfield Casino, Saratoga Lake and the Roosevelt Baths and Spa. (B,D)

3rd Day: We will visit the formal gardens at Clermont State Historic Site, the historic estate that features 6 formal gardens offering exquisite views of the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River. We then travel to Kingston where we board the mv Rip Van Winkle and take a delightful cruise down the Hudson River. Our journey to the world of Sleepy Hollow, Rip Van Winkle and Revolutionary War heroes provides us with spectacular views of historic mansions, monuments and country estates. The cruise is scenic, informative and most enjoyable and today - as all the days of this tour - features a kaleidoscope of the vivid colors of the spectacular Fall Foliage season. (B,D)

4th Day: The morning finds us driving to Hyde Park for a visit to Franklin Delano Roosevelt's home (a National Historic Site) on the Hudson River. The 19th century estate, library and grounds provide us with a sense of American history as well as some great views of the Hudson River and surrounding area. We then travel to West Point for a tour of the famed United States Military Academy. Our tour includes seeing the Cadet Chapel - which contains one of the largest church organs in the world, Trophy Point, the site of Fort Clinton and the Parade Grounds - where cadets drill and march and where George Washington trained and organized the Continental Army. Tonight is special indeed, as we enjoy a visit to the Culinary Institute of America (which is the training site for some of the world's great future chefs) and where we are treated to a delicious farewell dinner prepared by these chefs. (B,D)

5th Day: After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for our journey homeward. (B)

OPTION: Substitute a Tour of New York City for any of the above days (no additional charge). We leave the hotel after breakfast and drive to Manhattan where we take a tour of so many of New York's iconic sights: the Empire State Building, Broaway, 5th Avenue, Times Square, Lincoln Center, Central Park  and more. Return to the hotel for dinner.
