SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
"3 nights in the historic Queen Mary Hotel"
2021 Dates: June 11-17 ... October 15-21
Day 1: Upon arriving in sunny California we transfer to Long Beach and board the original Queen Mary – the legendary cruise ship that has been converted into an elegant hotel, where we have accommodations for the next 3 evenings. We are given a chance to explore this historic ocean liner before enjoying dinner in one of Long Beach’s finer restaurants. (D)
Day 2: We take a tour of Los Angeles this morning seeing, among other things, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, fabulous Rodeo Drive, the Stars’ “Walk of Fame,” the Civic Center, Sunset Strip and Griffith Park - the 2nd largest park in California. We'll get to see the homes of some of Hollywood's stars and leave the downtown area for visits of Fisherman's Village in Marina del Ray, Venice Beach, Santa Monica and the Pacific Palisades - which affords us with some gorgeous panoramic views of the magnificent Pacific coast. We return to the Queen Mary and, in the evening enjoy dinner in its award-winning Sir Winston’s restaurant. Following dinner we are taken on a haunted history tour of the paranormal hotspots from the ship’s haunted past. (B,D)
Day 3: The morning finds us traveling to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, which houses a full sized replica of Air Force One. Reagan’s decades-long history in movies, as governor of California and president of the United States is preserved in multi-media exhibits throughout the library. We then enjoy a fun-filled afternoon in Universal Studios. There’s so much to see and do, especially the Back Lot tour - where we go behind the scenes of a real working movie studio. You’ll enjoy your time spent at the studio and in the shops, restaurants and cinemas at City Walk. (B)
Day 4: We board the Catalina Express for the cruise to beautiful Catalina Island, a tropical paradise only 26 miles away from the coast. Once there we are treated to a glass-bottom boat cruise during which you can feed the fish and watch their feeding frenzy. Upon returning to shore we drive to San Diego and check into our First Class hotel, where we have accommodations for the next 3 nights. Another tasty dinner is prepared for us this evening. (B,D)
Day 5: Today’s tour features the sites of San Diego. We’ll see Old Town (which preserves the rich heritage of the city that dates back to the early 1800’s), Seaport Village, the Gaslamp District, the modern city center and the USS Midway, as well as the famous “Unconditional Surrender” statue and Tribute to Bob Hope. We’ll then travel to Coronado Island, learn about its history and take a guided tour of the famous Del Coronado Hotel. A delicious dinner is included tonight. (B,D)
Day 6: Another delightful day awaits us as we visit Balboa Park. This magnificent park is an architectural and cultural delight with its varied displays of art treasures, sports memorabilia, unique model railroads, world folk art and more. The various museums are housed in magnificent Spanish Colonial Revival buildings and are set amidst a glorious park of meandering paths, rolling lawns, shady groves of trees and seasonal flowers. They touch on everything from dinosaurs to space travel, photographs to old masters and automobiles to orchids. It even contains the world-famous San Diego Zoo. What a glorious day! (B)
